The Shetland Sheepdog Club Of Victoria - RESCUE is run by Bethia Tennyson & Beth Bubniw. We are two long standing members of the S.S.C.V. Inc. and both sheltie breeders since 1959. We have also served on Committee for many years.
We started the RESCUE Service 24 years ago, when we were contacted by a lady who had found and fed a sheltie for some days but could not keep him herself. It then became apparent to both of us that there must be other lost shelties needing help, so we approached the Committee for permission to set up a Rescue Service. We have had help from several members who cannot keep another dog, but are willing to collect one for us if it is in their area and we are unable to do so and the situation is urgent. We bath and groom all of our Rescue dogs and have them checked by our vet and treated if necessary. They are then kenneled in our own Kennels until a new owner is found, which gives us time to assess personality, temperament, etc. They are then de-sexed and immunized if necessary. After these dogs go to a new home microchipped, we give them time to settle in and then check to make sure the dog and owner are both happy. New owners are required to return the sheltie to us if for any reason they are unwilling or unable to keep it. They are also encouraged to keep in contact with us should any problems arise or if they have any queries. |
